GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Haverford College softball team saw its season come to an end Sunday as the decisive seventh game of the Centennial Conference Championship was canceled due to rainy conditions and unplayable field conditions.
By NCAA rule, conferences must declare their automatic bids for the NCAA Softball Regionals by 6 p.m. on Sunday night. In the event of an incomplete tournament, the Centennial Conference manual dictates that the highest remaining seed in the conference tournament shall be declared the conference's automatic qualifier and tournament champion. With that protocol in place, top-seeded Gettysburg was awarded the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Regional.
The Fords finish the season with a 21-12 record. Today's announcement brings to an end three great careers for the Haverford College softball Class of 2018. The trio of Alex Craig, Emily Gorman, and Jessica Koshinski advanced to three Centennial Conference Tournaments, played for two conference championships, and captured the crown during the 2016 season which also featured the deepest postseason run in program history.
