Men's Squash Turns Away Swarthmore in Season Opener, 8-1

HAVERFORD, Pa. – In its season opener on Friday evening, the No. 28 Haverford College men's squash team swept visiting Swarthmore, 8-1, at the GIAC Squash Courts.  The Fords improve to 13-0 all-time against the Garnet in a series that dates back to 1994. 

Haverford began its season with a victory for the fifth straight season.  Swarthmore dropped its first decision of the young season and is now 2-1 on the year.  The Garnet had previously notched wins over Johns Hopkins and No. 35 Chatham last weekend in Baltimore.

Davis Chase made his debut at the top flight, breezing past Davy Qi by game scores of 11-2, 11-4, 11-2. Tate Miller made quick work of Nathan Sandalow-Ash at the second flight, allowing just five total points in an 11-1, 11-3, 11-1 triumph. First year Keil Reedich won his collegiate debut in straight sets over Matthew Peterson, dispatching his opponent by scores of 11-4, 11-3, 11-4 at the third flight.  Yash Singh got the best of Yichuan Yang at the fourth spot on the ladder, grabbing an 11-5, 11-7, 11-2 victory, the 35th of his career at Haverford.

First year Alden Weinberg allowed just three total points to Amanda Izes at the fifth spot in his collegiate debut for an 11-1, 11-1, 11-1 win. Senior co-captain Ryan Dukarm picked up his 29th career victory at number six, sweeping Robert Gunn by game scores of 11-4, 11-2, 11-3.  Fellow senior co-captain Alex Liu was victorious at the seventh flight for his 26th career win, prevailing 11-5, 11-1, 11-1 over Nathan Pitock. First year Aaron Witkin surrendered just 10 total points to James Sutton at the eighth flight in his collegiate debut (11-2, 11-3, 11-5). Swarthmore's Eddie Wu picked up a win by default at the ninth spot on the ladder.

Head Coach Niki Clement's squad is next in action at the Navy Round Robin on Saturday, November 10. The Fords will take on No. 32 Fordham (2:30 p.m.) and Boston University (5 p.m.) on the campus of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
