Late goals help men’s soccer to 3-1 win over Bears

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Haverford College midfielder Alejandro Rettig y Martinez scored two goals as the Fords defeated Ursinus, 3-1, in Centennial Conference men's soccer action Wednesday afternoon.

Rettig y Martinez scored Haverford's (4-1-2, 2-0-1 CC) first goal in the 24th minute and provided the game-winner in the 76th minute to help the Fords remain unbeaten in conference play.

Ursinus (1-7, 0-3 CC), trailing 1-0 after the first half, tied the score with 16:49 left as Chris Polster scored on a header on a cross from Andrew Machalick.

Rettig y Martinez scored the game-winner at 76:12 on a deflection, followed by a goal from David Restrepo with just over five minutes left.

For Ursinus, junior goalkeeper Mike Alfieri had nine saves, while goalkeeper Jamey Applegate had three saves for the Fords.

The Fords return to Walton Field Saturday to host Franklin & Marshall College at 1 p.m.
