Chanelli helps Haverford roll past FDU-Florham

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Scott Chanelli set a new single-game program record for ground balls with 19 to help the Haverford College men's lacrosse team take down Fairleigh-Dickinson University at Florham, 14-6, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Swan Field.

The Fords (3-7) dominated the contest against the Devils (4-5) across the score sheet as they outshot FDU (47-22), won the ground ball battle (45-17), and dominated in faceoffs (20-4). 

Shaking off a 1-0 deficit, Haverford scored four of the next five, including Phillip Valliant's team-leading 18th of the season, to take a 4-2 lead at the end of the first.

The Fords continued the offensive pressure in the second quarter as they registered three more, highlighted by Jack Bodine's first of his career to extend their advantage to 7-3 at the half.

Dominating the third stanza, Haverford added five more goals by five different scorers while holding the Devils to just one goal to move ahead, 12-4.

The final quarter saw the two squads register two goals apiece. Bodine finished off the scoring with his third of the day with five minutes remaining in the contest.

The Fords tallied a season-high 11 assists on the day as contributions came from up and down the roster. Bodine added an assist to finish with four points on the day. Christian Clay and Henry Millson matched the four-point effort with a goal and three assists apiece. Dan LoSardo, Henry Lanier, and Jake Maldonado each chipped in with two goals while Chanelli and Geoff Geppert tallied one.

Chanelli and Dillon Hamill both caused three turnovers to lead the Haverford defense. Clay (six), Bodine (four) and Jordan Hitchcock (four) helped  win the ground ball battle.

Ryan Herz-Thyhsen (1-0) made seven saves to record the first win of his career in goal.

Jake Higgins scored two goals and an assist to lead FDU on the day.

Returning to Centennial Conference action, the Fords host Franklin & Marshall College next Saturday, April 14, at 3 p.m.
