Dan Crowley '90, the former head coach at Friends Central School, enters his 18th year on the coaching staff in 2017-18. Crowley works with the outfielders and base runners. Under his guidance, Haverford has become known for its aggressive offensive style and excellence on the base paths.
Since 2002, when Crowley joined the Fords’ coaching staff, Haverford has ranked among the top 25 teams in the country in stolen bases. In 2017, Haverford swiped an average of three bases per contest, the second best mark in Division III.
The Fords established a new Haverford record for steals in 2011 with 161 successful swipes - third-most in NCAA Division III - in 180 attempts. Seven of the top 10 base stealers in program history have been coached by Crowley. Crowley ranks seventh on that list with 59 stolen bases in his Haverford career.
Crowley had a distinguished playing career at Haverford and held the program record for runs scored in a career (129) until the mark was broken in 2011 by Charlie Carluccio '11 who scored 144 runs over his career with the Fords. He still holds the program record for career on-base percentage (.504).
