Fords turn back Stevens for 7th straight victory

HOBOKEN, N.J. - The Haverford College volleyball team captured its seventh consecutive victory with a 3-1 win over host Stevens Institute of Technology Wednesday night in a non-conference match-up at Canavan Arena.

Freshmen Nina Mutty and Meg O'Day paced the attack for the Fords (11-2) with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Classmate Olivia Walsh added 24 assists. Sophomore Madison Fuelling tallied all of Haverford's three service aces on the night.

Fuelling was also active on defense as she earned game-high honors with 19 digs to help limit the Ducks (4-11) to a mere .121 attack percentage overall. Helping Fuelling on defense were Sarah Brody (13 kills) and Mutty (10 kills). Senior Olivia Coburn-Flynn provided a strong presence at the net with five block assists.

Senior Maggie Kowalska led the Ducks, picked to finish third in the Empire 8 Conference, with 17 kills and 16 digs.

After dropping a closely contested first set (25-20), the Fords bounced back to take the next two by identical 25-21 scores. Sparked by a kill by Emily Mills that gave the Haverford its first lead of set four at 11-10, the Fords never looked back and took advantage of the opportunity to close out the match with a 25-18 victory.
