Haverford runs to strong showing on day 2 of the McElligott Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's indoor track & field team put forth another consistent effort Saturday afternoon as competition continued on the second day of the Seamus McElligott Invitational in Alumni Field House.

The Fords grabbed three of the top four spots in the 800 meter run as freshman Kathryn Balmer ran to a collegiate best finish of 2 minutes, 20.59 seconds to take first place and maintain her hold on the second-fastest time on the Centennial Conference performance list. Erin Seglem and Sara Hess finished in third and fourth with season-bests of 2:23.68 and 2:24.33, respectively.

Haverford claimed two third place finishes on the track Saturday as freshman Phoebe Miller took third in the mile with a collegiate-best time of 5:16.39 and sophomore Carson Wills' time of 10.70 seconds earned her third in the 60m hurdles.

Earning sixth place in the 400, sophomore Nicole Inman tied her season best with a time of 1:03.69. Inman also was the first Haverford runner across the line in the 200 as her career-best time of 28.29 seconds earned her seventh place. Freshman Carolyn Oehrig and senior Kylie Lipinski followed closely behind in eighth and ninth place, respectively, as Oehrig posted a time of 28.34 in her first collegiate 200 and Lipinski, who also finished 10th in the 60 meter dash, achieved a career-best time of 28.36. Sophomore Kimberly Carlomagno also ran well in the 200 with a 12th place finish to go along with her seventh place finish in the 60.

Oehrig capped her busy day with a third place finish in the long jump as she leapt to a collegiate-best 4.71 meters (15 feet, 5.5 inches) and a fourth place finish in the high jump as she tied her collegiate-best of 1.47m (4-9.75). Junior Emma Kornetsky, who leapt to a sixth place finish in the long jump, earned third in the triple jump with a career-indoor best of 9.77m (32-00.75).

Next up for The Fords is a trip to New York City as they take part in the Lafayette/Rider Meet on Friday afternoon in the NYC Armory.
