HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team opened Centennial Conference action with a convincing 9-0 victory over Bryn Mawr College on Friday evening at the Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center in Alumni Field House.
After sweeping the doubles portion of the match, the Fords (5-2, 1-0 CC) continued to roll past the Owls (3-2, 0-1) with straight-set victories at each of the six singles spots.
Senior Celia Tong, playing at No. 4, led the impressive effort with a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Kendall Baller. Also performing well were Kristen Andersen, at No. 6, and Robyn Himelstein, at No. 3, who each surrendered just one game to Tirsa Delate and Melina Koukoutchos, respectively.
In her first action of the spring, Alyssa Lavin, playing at No. 5, registered a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Catherine Austin.
Haverford sparkled throughout the afternoon as the sweep at doubles included an 8-0 win by the No. 2 pairing of Himelstein and Tong.
Friday's match, scheduled to be a home contest for Bryn Mawr, took place indoors at Haverford due to the chilly weather conditions.
Looking for their fourth consecutive victory, the Fords return to action on March 30 when they take on visiting McDaniel College at noon.
