Downing, Horn named to IWLCA academic honor roll

GRAND LAKE, Colo. – Haverford College's Perrin Downing and Shannon Horn have been named to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Association's (IWLCA) Division III 2013 Academic Honor Roll as announced by the coaching organization Thursday afternoon.

Downing and Horn are two of 382 student-athletes from 67 different institutions to be tabbed for the D-III honor roll. Honorees must be a junior in academic standing and were nominated by their coaches. Stephanie Green from Christopher Newport University was named the IWLCA 2013 Scholar Athlete of the Year.

The Haverford duo helped lead the Fords into the Centennial Conference tournament after a 13-4 regular season. The 13 wins tied the program record for most in a single season.

Downing started all 18 games for the Fords during her senior season scoring 16 goals and adding 15 assists which was third-most on the team. She also contributed 14 caused turnovers. Downing is a three-time Centennial academic honor roll selectee and this marks her second consecutive year on the IWLCA's honor roll.

Horn played 17 games between the pipes for the Fords accumulating 127 saves over 865 minutes during her junior campaign. She registered a career-high 16 saves in the Fords' semifinal loss to host Franklin & Marshall College in the spring. This is Horn's first IWLCA academic honor.

The Fords were also one of 86 teams from throughout D-III recognized as an IWLCA academic squad for having a team grade point average of at least a 3.0.
