DMRs race into nation's top-5

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The opening session of the Seamus McElligott Invitational Friday evening saw two relay squads from the Haverford College men's indoor track & field team break into the nation's top-five, and five other runners punched their tickets to the Centennial Conference championship meet.

In the final event of the night, two distance medley relay teams from Haverford posted times that register within the top-five in the event this winter.

The relay made up of Tim Schoch, Gebby Keny, Jacob Olshansky and Jordan Schilit clocked a time of 10 minutes, 5.83 seconds for the 4,000 meter event. That time is the third-fastest in the nation heading into the weekend. The quartet of Andrew Golato, Sam Callon, Michael Riccio and Eric Arnold registered the nation's fifth-fastest time (10:08.04). Elizabethtown College's relay squad won Friday's event with a time, 10:02.68, that rates as the fastest in the country.

Earlier in the evening another group of Fords motored around the oval in the 5,000 meter run with each of the five surpassing the qualification standard (16:22.45) of the Centennial Conference championship meet at the end of February.

Ben Cutilli (15:29.47) and Jake Koffer (15:34.63) posted season bests Friday night taking 13th and 16th place, respectively. Koffer missed setting a personal best by 0.10 seconds.

The three other Fords in the race each set career bests on their way to qualifying for the conference meet. Ethan Haswell (15:36.04) was 17th in the race, Aaron Buikema (16:08.00) was 24th, and Matthew Cohen (16:20.30) was 31st.

Haverford is back on the track in the Field House on Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. for the concluding session of the Invitational.
