Men's tennis stings Randolph-Macon

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Yellow Jackets from visiting Randolph-Macon College felt the sting of the Fords on Thursday afternoon as host Haverford College downed the visitors, 8-1, in a non-conference men's tennis match on the Norman B. Bramall Tennis Courts.

Haverford (2-4) swept through doubles action winning all three matches, but Randolph-Macon (3-8) put up a battle at all three spots.

Matthew Cebul and Matt Romei were forced to play a few extra points before defeating the Yellow Jackets' tandem of Connor Hoerr and Michael Baxter by a 9-7 count at No. 1 doubles.

The second doubles match remained close throughout its entirety as well, but the Fords' tandem of Luis Acaba and Andy Dougherty finally won out, 8-6, over John Adams and Richard Brock.

The shortest doubles contest of the chilly and overcast day was the 3-doubles match-up where Jacob Weisenthal and Zack Mason won by an 8-4 score.

Acaba at No. 1 singles, Dougherty at No. 2 and Mason at 3-singles picked up second wins for the Fords, each by straight set (2-0) scores.

At the tail-end of the singles lineup for Haverford, Sloan Millman at 4-singles and Harrison Elbert at No. 5 both picked up 2-0 wins for the final points of the day.

The Fords slip back into Centennial Conference play for their next match, traveling to Westminster, Md., for a league match against host McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon.
