HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team is the first of Haverford's spring sports teams to see action in 2013. When the Fords face Carnegie Mellon in mid-February, it will be one of five dates with teams ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's national preseason poll.
After opening up against the 18th-ranked Tartans at the Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center in Alumni Field House on Feb. 16, Haverford will have one more home contest against Stevens Institute of Technology, ranked 16th in the Northeast Region, on Feb. 27, before heading to the sunny skies of California for three matches over spring break. The California trip will provide some top-notch competition as the Fords match up against Chapman University, Pomona-Pitzer College and Whittier College. Chapman is ranked 14th in the West in the preseason rankings while Pomona-Pitzer and Whittier are ranked Nos. 10 and 26, respectively, in all of Division III.
The challenging Centennial Conference slate awaits upon Haverford's return starting with a home contest against Gettysburg College on March 23. Washington College, which the Fords defeated in the opening round of the 2012 Centennial tournament, also makes a visit to Norman B. Bramall Tennis Courts on April 2.
A trip to Dickinson College on April 6 precedes a non-conference tilt on April 9 with the University of the Sciences, a perennial D-II contender in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference.
The closing two weeks of the regular season kick off with a road contest on April 13 with defending Centennial champion, Johns Hopkins University, ranked seventh nationally. Capping off the regular-season schedule will be an engagement with rival Swarthmore College as the 23rd-ranked Garnet come to Haverford on April 27.
