Favorite class?
The course that most interested me during my college years thus
far has been Critical Issues in Education. In the course, we
examined many issues and concerns that are present in the United
States educational system. Each student in the class brought their
own diverse personal educational background to class discussions,
which is why these discussions were my favorite aspect of the
course. Being a product of current educational practices allowed me
to make concrete connections to the conceptual theories I was
learning in class; which is why I really enjoyed the fieldwork
component of the course, where I was a teacher's aid in a
pre-algebra class in a local middle school.
Favorite extra curricular activity?
In addition to athletics, my position as Students' Council
Co-Treasurer has been my favorite extra-curricular activity. The
experience was a valuable lesson in decision-making, as I often had
to make important monetary decisions that affected the entire
student body. As a member of Executive Council, I had the
opportunity to deliberate over campus-wide issues and was able to
work with members of the Haverford administration.
What does it mean to you to be a
student-athlete?
Being a student-athlete has been an immensely valuable experience
for me. Most importantly, I have learned about dedication,
persistence, and what it takes to be committed to a team. Because
participating on a team is a large time commitment, I have learned
to effectively manage my time, creating a routine to balance my
academics, athletics, and other activities.
Favorite Haverford memory?
One of my favorite Haverford memories was when we beat
Swarthmore's tennis team for the first time since 1956.
What advice would you give a high school student
considering Haverford?
If you are the type of student who is intrigued by the innumerable
opportunities both in and outside the classroom that Haverford
provides, then Haverford is the right place for you.
