Fords crack top-20

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) released its national rankings Tuesday with Haverford College earning its way into the Division III poll at No. 15. The Fords crack the top-20 Penn Monto/NFHCA rankings after opening the season with victories over a pair of then-ranked squads.

The season opener brought then-No. 17 Rowan University to Swan Field where the Fords (2-0) were able to down the Profs, 4-2. Lebanon Valley College, ranked 16th in the preseason poll, came to Swan six days later but went home with a 3-1 loss to Haverford.

The Fords never trailed in either of their opening wins, and both Rowan and Lebanon Valley were dropped from the poll following the opening-week losses.

Haverford's entry into the rankings give the Centennial Conference three teams in the poll with Ursinus College (1-1) sitting at No. 8, one spot ahead of Franklin & Marshall College (2-1). Along with those two ranked conference opponents, Haverford will also square off against No. 4 Messiah College during the 2012 season. The College of New Jersey (2-0) tops the Sept. 11 poll.
