Reigning champs voted to top roost of preseason conference poll
LANCASTER, Pa. – The Centennial Conference released its preseason baseball poll on Tuesday afternoon and the coaches' vote puts reigning champion Haverford College atop the rankings with 78 points and six first-place votes.
The Fords captured their first Centennial crown in 2012 and went on to play to a 1-2 record at the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional in Lakewood, N.J. Haverford finished its championship season with a 25-19 mark overall and a 12-6 record within the league.
Following the Fords in the preseason Centennial poll is Johns Hopkins University with 76 points and the other four first-place votes. Further back in third place, with 57 points, is McDaniel College.
Haverford opens its 2013 campaign on the road at Rowan University on Tuesday, March 5 in a non-conference match-up. The Fords' home opener at Kannerstein Field is scheduled for Friday, March 8 against visiting Gwynedd-Mercy College.
The Centennial slate for Haverford kicks off with the top two teams in the preseason poll facing off in a twinbill. Hopkins will make the trip to Kannerstein on Saturday, March 30 with Game 1 set to begin at 12:30 p.m.
