NEW ORLEANS – Both of Haverford College's men's and women's cross country teams knew last Saturday that they had placed each of their seven runners competing in the NCAA 2012 Division III Mideast Region on the all-region squads. But Monday evening the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced how special that feat was noting that only six teams across the nation raced to the same seven-for-seven accomplishment.
Haverford's men, the nation's top-ranked team in the latest USTFCCCA D-III poll and Mideast region champion, and No. 3 Calvin (Mich.) College from the Great Lakes Region were the only two men's teams to place all seven runners within their respective region's top 35. Both the Fords and Knights posted the same all-region results last season.
On the women's side, earning seven-for-seven honors along with region runner-up and eighth-ranked Haverford were Claremont-Mudd-Scripps from the West, St. Lawrence University from the Atlantic and Trinity (Texas) University in the South/Southeast Region.
In a conference count, the Centennial Conference placed 18 runners on the men's all-region lists while 23 women from the league ran to all-region accolades.
Both of Haverford's teams will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for Saturday's NCAA D-III championship race.
