Haverford to host 2011 Billy Lake ALS Basketball Marathon

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Haverford College will be the site of the 20th Annual Billy Lake ALS Basketball Marathon Saturday, October 8 from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. in Gooding Arena.

The celebrity basketball contest is at 11 a.m. when  Division I head men’s basketball coaches Phil Martelli (St. Joseph’s), Fran O’Hanlon (Lafayette), Fran Dunphy (Temple) and Jerome Allen (Penn) team up with TV media personalities Dave Warren (NBC) and Jeff Skversky (ABC) to take on Team Lake.

Throughout the day, basketball games will be played on Haverford’s two basketball courts. Aside from the games, the day will also bring a live and silent auction and numerous contests.

Please visit www.billylake.com to register -- as an individual or as a team -- to play in the marathon. Attendance for the day is free.

The marathon benefits The ALS Association Greater Philadelphia Chapter’s research program to find a cure for Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Lake, a Havertown resident, succumbed to ALS in April 1992 at the age of 42. His family and friends created this marathon as a tribute to his courage.
