Soccer teams lauded for academic excellence
KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) released on Thursday its 2012-13 College Team Academic Award winners and Haverford College's men's and women's teams both earned inclusion on the list.
A total of 862 soccer teams from Divisions I, II and III, as well as junior colleges and community colleges were named to the list, but only 182 schools, including Haverford, placed both its men's and women's programs on NSCAA's academic register.
Qualified teams posted a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or higher for the 2012-13 academic year.
Haverford's women's team played its way into the championship game of the Centennial Conference tournament in early November and days later earned an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament. This marks the second season in a row in which the women played in the national playoffs.
The Fords men captured the regular season Centennial title this fall and played in the semifinal round of the league's postseason tournament.
